Frequently asked questions.

Frequently Asked Questions About Mysteries of Hawaiʻi Ghost Tours

What makes Mysteries of Hawaiʻi the best Honolulu ghost tour?

Mysteries of Hawaiʻi has been voted the #1 ghost tour in the nation by USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards, three years in a row. Each tour is led by master storyteller Lopaka Kapanui, a cultural historian and expert on Hawaiʻi’s supernatural traditions. Guests don’t just hear spooky tales—they learn real historical accounts, cultural legends, and site-specific hauntings that truly define haunted Honolulu and haunted Waikīkī.

Are your stories based on real events?

Yes. Every tour features documented accounts from locals, archived newspaper articles, historical records, and eyewitness testimonies. Many stories include sites tied to real tragedies, documented hauntings, and ancient Hawaiian history such as Night Marcher pathways and burial grounds.

Which tour is best for first-time visitors?

Most first-time guests choose:

⭐ Honolulu Night Marchers Ghost Tour

⭐ Ghosts of Old Honolulu Walking Tour

Both are highly rated, family-friendly, and take place in historic areas of Honolulu where hauntings are still reported today.

Is the tour scary?

The experience is spooky, atmospheric, and rooted in real Hawaiian hauntings rather than jump scares. Guests often describe our tours as “chilling,” “authentic,” and “unexpectedly emotional.” We are Native Hawaiian-owned and operated, so we respect cultural sensitivity and do not sensationalize Hawaiian stories.

Do your tours mention the Night Marchers?

Yes. Several tours take place along historic huakaʻi pō (Night Marcher) routes. Guests learn about protocol, legends, historical conflicts, and modern sightings reported in Honolulu and Waikīkī.

Do you offer haunted bus tours?

Occasionally. We offer quarterly bus tours and may offer additional bus tours in the summer months. Our bus tours in the past have visited haunted places in ‘Ewa/Kapolei, Wai‘anae, Mo‘ili‘ili, Mānoa, East O‘ahu, and O‘ahu’s North Shore. We post haunted ghost bus tours about 4-6 weeks in advance on our website and social media pages.

Are your ghost tours suitable for kids?

Children are welcome our tours, and many families attend. For younger children, we leave it up to their parents’ discretion.

What should I wear or bring?

Comfortable walking shoes, bottled water, and light rain protection are recommended. Photography is allowed—and many guests claim to capture unusual images on our Honolulu ghost tours.

Do you offer private, group, or corporate events?

Yes. Mysteries of Hawaiʻi hosts:

✔ School tours and in-class storytelling (with age-appropriate stories and legends)

✔ Corporate events and team-building

✔ Family reunions

✔ Private celebrations

Private tours can be customized by location, duration, and theme.

How long is the tour and how much walking is involved?

Tours typically run 90 minutes and cover nearly a 1/4 mile, moderate walking distances on paved sidewalks in urban Honolulu. Our Waikīkī tour does include some walking in grass.

Will I see ghosts?

While sightings cannot be guaranteed, many guests report:

👣 Unexplained footsteps

🌫 Shapes or figures in photographs

🌬 Sudden cold breezes

🕯 Feelings of being watched

We cannot promise paranormal experiences—only an unforgettable journey into Hawaii’s haunted history.
