Ghost Stories of the Old Plantations.
Friday, November 13, 2026
A special ghost tour at Hawaii’s Plantation Village.
In the late 1800s, there was an influx of immigrants who came to work in our sugarcane fields. Thousands of people came from Japan, China, the Philippines, Portugal, and many other countries, searching for work and better living conditions. But they quickly found out that paradise was not what it seemed.
Kept separated in camps by ethnicity, each group brought their own culture, customs, religions, and superstitions. Through their survival, the groups created a local culture that exists today in our language, including pidgin English, our foods, like the mixed plate, and celebrations and customs, like lion dances and obon.
